  • After seeing Andrew Keegan on a re-run of "Moesha," I started checking up on what else he'd been up to since "Party of Five" because I hadn't really seen him in anything outside of that and "Camp Nowhere." I'd heard of this movie but never saw it so I checked it out. The beginning of the movie was rough, especially with that horny principal. I was thinking, "What was Gabrielle Union thinking trying out for this one? This is worse than those cheerleader movies." But then the characters were so ridiculous, from the teacher cursing everybody out to Keegan's character, Joey, being beyond vain. Julia Stiles is cool, and I liked that she was rebelling against the normal. I figured I had the movie now. May as well give it a shot. And it picked up. Was it ridiculous? Absolutely. When Joey drew a penis on the side of that one guy's face, I knew this movie was going to have plenty of laughs. And it did. But in between the laughing was a story about a girl who had a deeper reason for rebelling, which I'd already guessed as soon as I saw the two interact.

The summary is basically that Bianca wants to be a popular teenage girl who dates. Her father won't let her date unless her sister, Kat, dates, too. Since Kat (Stiles' character) seems to be completely repulsed by teenage boys, that'll be a challenge. But when Joey pays Patrick (played by Heath Ledger, whose name I knew but I'd never seen him in any movies outside of playing the Joker) to get Kat to go out with him, the game is on. The only problem is Cameron (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) likes her, too, so he's trying to get in on the deal. A bunch of confusion happens, and the ending is as predictable as you'd expect. I loved watching Stiles and Ledger interact onscreen though.

Another thing that amused me about the movie was the crazy choices of music. They went from George Clinton with "Atomic Dog" to Salt n' Pepa to Biggie, and then into a bunch of rock songs I didn't know. And Stiles has been watching "Player's Club" because she danced a little too convincing. Pure entertainment. Anyway, great movie that started off rather shaky.

I Love this Movie - Aprilskye - Santa Rosa, CA
Watching Kat (Julia Stiles) and Patrick (Heath Ledger) interact in this film is priceless. Both characters were given great lines, but it is the combination that makes the film for me. One of my favorite scenes is when Patrick is told that Kat apparently likes "pretty guys" and his facial expression is hilarious as he finally realizes they don't think he is. Which is he, of course. It eventually dawns on each of the two main characters that they like the other despite no initial intentions to do so. These awakenings are touching to watch. They each publicly embarrass themselves as they travel towards being a couple, but by the end of the movie I'm convinced they have a future. Whether that survives Kat going to Sarah Lawrence for college I can't say, but I'll bet they have a good time together for the rest of their senior year. This is a movie I can watch over and over again because it is funny and entertaining. It also makes high school look as ridiculous as it is, but yet certainly more fun than my high school years.

  • Two-Disc 70th Anniversary Edition includes over two hours of all-new exclusive content: documentary on director Victor Fleming, Dreamer of Oz TV special, and Munchkin featurette!

    Review

When it was released during Hollywood's golden year of 1939, The Wizard of Oz didn't start out as the perennial classic it has since become. The film did respectable business, but it wasn't until its debut on television that this family favorite saw its popularity soar. Young Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland), her dog, Toto, and her three companions on the yellow brick road to Oz--the Tin Man (Jack Haley), the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), and the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger)--have become pop-culture icons and central figures in the legacy of fantasy for children. As the Wicked Witch who covets Dorothy's enchanted ruby slippers, Margaret Hamilton has had the singular honor of scaring the wits out of children for more than six decades. The film's still as fresh, frightening, and funny as it was when first released. It may take some liberal detours from the original story by L. Frank Baum, but it's loyal to the Baum legacy while charting its own course as a spectacular film. Shot in glorious Technicolor, befitting its dynamic production design (Munchkinland alone is a psychedelic explosion of color and decor), The Wizard of Oz may not appeal to every taste as the years go by, but it's required viewing for kids of all ages. --Jeff Shannon

  • Wow! We were blown away by the quality of the picture. We saw it on our 60" screen shown w/ a projector and a blu ray player.
It's really amazing what they've done with this 70 yr old movie. We saw things that we'd never noticed before. The colors are truly amazing, the details are crisp and clear.
The rest of the set has a beautiful watch, a book, and several other items that we haven't even looked at yet.
There's also a second dvd that I assume has special features on it to enjoy at another viewing. There is also a free digital copy included so you can see it on your computer if you wish.
Get this set! You will not regret it.

  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show (35th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray] Reviews By Customers
  • Having been a fan since the early days with the midnight showings, I have bought this film with every new format.

The following was the 20th Century Fox press release on the RHPS fan club web site:

AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE... FOR 35 YEARS

New High Definition Transfer Of Time Warp Cult Classic Debuts On Blu-ray Disc October 19

LOS ANGELES, CA. (Aug. 4, 2010) - Let's do the Time Warp again!

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment celebrates the 35th anniversary of the pop culture phenomenon The Rocky Horror Picture Show with the Blu-ray Disc debut on October 19. The greatest cult film of all time and still in limited release, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the longest-running theatrical release in film history.

A divine film adaptation from Richard O'Brien's British musical horror comedy/rock opera, produced by Lou Adler and Michael White, The Rocky Horror Picture Show features revered performance by Tim Curry (Clue, Home Alone) as a bizarre and self-proclaimed "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania," and Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking, Thelma and Louise) and Barry Bostwick ("Spin City"), as Brad and Janet, a couple who find themselves lost on a cold, rainy night. The madcap, musical mayhem begins when the couple takes refuge in the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter as he is about to unveil his greatest creation - and have a bit of fun with his reluctant guests.

Boasting a newly-restored high definition transfer and 7.1 audio sure to make fans shiver with an-tic-i-pation, the anniversary edition Blu-ray truly brings the Midnight experience home wtih exclusive new content including Rocky-oke: Sing It!, Picture-In-Picture Shadowcast Performance, Vintage Callback Track (Unrated), Prop Box, Shadowcasting documentary, as well as exclusive new content including BD-LIVE: Live Lookup(tm) Powered by IMDb®, Photo Galleries, as well as Deleted Scenes, Audio Commentary and more. For a limited time, The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary will be packaged in a collectible 24-page book featuring legendary photography from Mick Rock, best known for his iconic shots of rock and roll artists. Rock served as the chief photographer on the film.

Arriving in time for Halloween, The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary Blu-ray Disc will be available for the suggested retail price of .99 U.S. / .99 CAN. Pre-book is September 8.

Selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant," the film gained notoriety as a midnight movie when audiences began participating with the film in theaters. The film has entered the pop culture lexicon for its many iconic and memorable scenes, including the song "The Time Warp" which has been covered by handfuls of artists and the often quoted phrase, "Dammit, Janet."

The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary Blu-ray Disc release is just one aspect of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's yearlong campaign to honor the studio's 75th birthday. This year the division will debut several select fan-favorites on Blu-ray for the first time ever including The Sound Of Music 45th Anniversary Edition, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, The Last of the Mohicans and the Alien Anthology.

  • Dumbo 70th Anniversary Edition (Blu-ray/DVD Combo w/Blu-ray packaging) Blu-ray Region A / DVD Region 1 & 4 Reviews By Customers
  • After waiting a long time for seeing Dumbo being given the treatment it deserves, that day finally arrived. Dumbo Blu-ray combo pack is a must own for any fan of this masterpiece. First let me tell you that this title had regretably being delayed in the United States but overseas (I live in Ecuador) it arrived on February 10 as expected and will arrive in the UK tomorrow March 22. The picture is perfect and the sound is really crisp. Of course don't expect things like The Lion King but this score is excellent. The film is presented in fullscreen as it was originally released. The DVD looks excellent too. I owned the 60 Ann. Ed. DVD and the differences are like night and day. This new restoration of Dumbo makes the film look as sharp as Snow White or any other Platinum/Diamond title. It also has a Disney Enhances Home Theater Mix that really adds to the film. Both the Blu-Ray and the DVD contain the following bonus features:

    Backstage Disney:
Taking Flight: The Making of Dumbo which is a excellent documentary about the making of this film.
Magic of Dumbo: Ride of Passage
Sound Design Excerpt from "The Reluctant Dragon"
    Original Walt Disney Television Introduction

    Deleted Scenes:
    Deleted Scene: The Mouse's Tale
Deleted Song: "Are You a Man or a Mouse"

    Exclusive to the Blu-Ray are:
    DisneyView / Cine-Explore
    Art Galleries
    Featurette: "Celebrating Dumbo"
Bonus Shorts: "The Flying Mouse" and "Elmer Elephant"
Games: "What Do You See?" (Family Play) and "What Do You Know" (Smart Play)

Whatever the format you choose (of course the combo pack is the best way to go), Dumbo is given a Diamond/Platinum treatment with a fantastic restoration and new bonus material that adds to the film value. I totally recommend this film. Sadly is not available on the US but try getting it from Mexico where is available or from Amazon because if not, you'll have to wait another year until they release this masterpiece there.

    Unfair Review. - oliver -
Obviously the previews reviewer missed some part of the DVD description.
I have one and it is an authentic Disney.
Like it says: "Authentic Disney with all chapter inserts (Blu-ray is Region A and DVD is Region 1 & 4) plays on ALL US PLAYERS. Audio is in ENGLISH AND SPANISH. It just released in Mexico. It contains BOTH the Blu-ray version and the DVD version."
It isn't a FAKE CHINESE COUNTERFEIT. People should be more careful when leaving their comments.
