THE CURSE OF KING TUT'S TOMB
Thousands of years ago, the great Child King Tutankhamen ruled. Few know the details of his life--no one knows the secrets of his death. All that is about to change.
Free-spirited archaeologist Danny Fremont (Casper Van Dien, Sleepy Hollow) is certain that if found, King Tut's Emerald Tablet would hold the power to control the world. Unfortunately, the only one who believes Fremont is his nemesis archaeologist Morgan Sinclair (Jonathan Hyde, Titanic), a member of a secret society who wants the tablet to harness unspeakable evil on the world and will stop at nothing to get it.
With the help of a crackerjack team that includes the doubting Egyptologist Dr. Barakat (Leonor Varela, Cleopatra), Fremont ventures into the Valley of the Kings, toward Tut's tomb, nearer the portal to another world, and closer to the truth behind a mystery that will change the world forever--or end it.
Directed by action movie veteran Russell Mulcahy (Highlander) and co-starring Golden Globe® nominee Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) and Simon Callow (The Phantom of the Opera).
DVD Features include Bonus Features with the Cast and Crew.

This move is so bad, that it is actually funny The costumes, dialogue and props are often anachronistic. The plot loses track of itself. It's so funny to see things totally out of that place and time, watching the movie to spot them is entertaining.

  • Beware of THE CURSE OF CASPER VAN DIEN! - Ratspit - California, United States
Ok, I like a good B-movie the same as the next guy. Even more so probably. And I like what they are trying to do here with The Curse of King Tut's Tomb, I really do. I don't think I have to get into the story, as others have done that. The filming is fine, the CGI, well, it certainly could be a lot better in some place, and in other places it is decent enough. The ending CGI seemed rushed a bit. Whatever, no one is watching this for the brilliance here. It is supposed to be fun. And it is fun, to a point.

What kills it, unless you have a much higher tolerance than I do (and mine is pretty high), is Casper Van Dien's acting here. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of Casper Van Dien. I often find him, well, on the annoying side with sort of a "look at me, I did good didn't I" childlike smirk and behavior. Like maybe he was told too many times growing up, "stick out your chest son and be a big little guy". Couple all this with the fact that he seems to be having WAY too much fun doing this role (so much so that it is distracting) and what it leads to is a sickening sweet job of acting that is like overdosing on a container of Casper Van Dien molasses. Honestly, if he had toned it down and didn't come off as an Indiana Jones wannabe younger brother, and if they had better writers for some of the eye rolling dialog, and if it had a been a film and not a mini series, well, then maybe this would have been watchable. As it stands, I think I'd rather sit naked on a hot stove and play the fiddle than sit through this whole thing again.

If people are looking for more of the Indiana Jones thing (sort-of), either watch the Indiana Jones films themselves, or, give The Mummy series a shot with Brendan Fraser. There is also Romancing The Stone, The Ghost and The Darkness, any of the Lost World or Journey To the Center Of The Earth films (there are several with different actors), King Solomon's Mines (with Patrick Swayze and Alison Doody, probably the best of his last works before he passed away), the 1981 film Sphinx starring Lesley Anne Down and Frank Langella, or something else more worth your time than Casper "what a good little big boy-man am I" Van Dien.

Incidentally, Casper Van Dien did do one film recently more recently that I actually found watchable called "Mask of the Ninja". Yeah, it's another B-film, but he doesn't come off like a little chest puffed out good little boy in it. But there are better films in that category as well.
