An entertaining Western with fine cast, beautiful photography, and good performances. In my opinion, Maurice Jarre's score is mostly too joyful and inappropriate for many serious and suspenseful scenes of the movie. The 2.35:1 picture is enhanced and excellent.

Buy this DVD. Every actor is in their prime and the script is good.

Hold that thought -- Robert Ryan was dying of cancer when he made this movie. He wanted to leave on top, and he did.

A real western. - william bissell -
Next to the "Magnificent Seven", this is one of the best westerns ever made. Lee Marvin and Bert Lancaster are outstanding cowboys and perfect for the parts. I'll bet if Sam Pekinpah would have directed it, it would have won an Oscar.
